The River Did

Carry the soft whispers of broken souls
the river did, along with its ebb and flow
Carry the hearts of a million
the river did, and along with them the whispers go.
Settle with grace, along the bank
the white dove did, to quench her thirst for water
Pecked and tasted and filled her beak
the white dove did, and found it cold and bitter
River dear, your water bitter
the white dove asked, how do you keep your sparkle
Though broken souls and undone hearts
the white dove asked, you carry; your flow seems not to buckle
White dove, my curious white friend
the river answered, you ask but something silly
Broken souls and undone hearts
the river answered, are not mine though I do carry
I wish I had your strength and patience
the white dove said, to serve Man, the ungrateful, so willingly
For whence they step, my eyes do see
the white dove said, grow only thoughts of self and self only
Patience my love, not all hope is lost
the river said, for they do pour their swill in me
Patience my dove, among their young
the river said, their swill, do they bother to unburden me.
